Shittim Valley

The Shittim Valley is mentioned in Joel's prophecy as a place where water will flow when God restores Judah's fortunes (Jol 3:18).

The Shittim Valley is mentioned in the context of the prophet Joel's vision of the restoration of Judah and Jerusalem (Jol.3.18). In this prophecy, Joel describes a future time when the mountains will drip with sweet wine, the hills will flow with milk, and all the ravines of Judah will run with water. Specifically, he mentions that a fountain will flow from the house of the Lord and water the Shittim Valley. The exact location of the Shittim Valley is uncertain, but it is likely a reference to the area near the ancient city of Shittim, also known as Abel-shittim, located east of the Jordan River in the plains of Moab (Num. 33:49). This region was the last encampment of the Israelites before they crossed the Jordan to enter the Promised Land (Josh. 3:1). The mention of the Shittim Valley in Joel's prophecy symbolizes the abundant blessings and restoration that God will bring to His people, even to the dry and desolate areas. It also serves as a reminder of God's faithfulness in leading the Israelites through the wilderness and into the Promised Land.
