Jesus’ third tour of Galilee
Nazareth → Bethsaida → Gennesaret → Capernaum
Journey map
Four named places are shown from a traditional reconstruction of the third Galilean tour, including the retreat after the Twelve returned. The accounts of Mark, Luke and John are compared; this is not a complete itinerary narrated in sequence in a single Gospel. Between Nazareth and the vicinity of Bethsaida, Jesus also teaches in unnamed villages. The connection between the land of Gennesaret and Capernaum likewise comes from comparing the accounts. Lines are schematic links between places; the exact roads, departure point and shoreline locations are not established.
Approximate geographic reconstruction. Lines connect the named places without reconstructing exact roads or unrecorded stops. Grey markers indicate inferred or broader locations.
Stops in narrative order
- Nazareth
Location: Probable
Mark describes Jesus coming to his home country. Luke 4:16 names Nazareth as the place where he was brought up; that verse identifies the place rather than dating this visit.
Open place - Bethsaida
In the vicinity
Location: Probable
After the apostles return, Jesus takes them to a secluded place near Bethsaida. The vicinity is shown without asserting entry into the town or an exact location for the feeding of the five thousand.
Open place - Gennesaret
Region — representative point
Location: Probable
The land of Gennesaret, the district by the western shore of the Sea of Galilee where they land. The marker represents the district, not a town, the whole lake or an exact harbour.
Open place - Capernaum
Location: Probable
John explicitly places Jesus teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum. The intervening route from the land of Gennesaret is not described.
