Conditional birth estimate
Conditional birth bounds under generation assumptions; not attested parental ages, biological limits or a lifespan.
The anchors give incompatible conditional intervals. This calculation establishes no birth year.
Below are relatives with a selected birth year, the generations separating them, and the interval allowed by each anchor. Each relative’s page shows available dates and sources. The overall estimate uses the intersection of the allowed intervals.

Tamar was the daughter-in-law of Judah, married first to his son Er and then to Onan (Gen 38:6-11). After being wronged by Judah, Tamar disguised herself as a prostitute and conceived twins by him (Gen 38:13-24). She gave birth to Perez and Zerah, who became ancestors of the tribe of Judah (Gen 38:29-30; Rut 4:12; 1Ch 2:4). Tamar is praised for her righteousness in contrast to Judah (Gen 38:26). She is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus (Mat 1:3).
The daughter-in-law of Judah, to whose eldest son, Er, she was married (Gen. 38:6). After her husband’s death, she was married to Onan, his brother (8), and on his death, Judah promised to her that his third son, Shelah, would become her husband. This promise was not fulfilled, and hence Tamar’s revenge and Judah’s great guilt (38:12-30).
