Conditional birth estimate · c. 1288 BC – 1213 BC
Conditional birth bounds under generation assumptions; not attested parental ages, biological limits or a lifespan.
Below are relatives with a selected birth year, the generations separating them, and the interval allowed by each anchor. Each relative’s page shows available dates and sources. The overall estimate uses the intersection of the allowed intervals.

Elihu, also referred to as Eliel, is mentioned in the genealogies of the Kohathite Levites as an ancestor of the prophet Samuel (1Sa 1:1; 1Ch.6.27,34). He was the son of Tohu (1Sa 1:1) or Toah (1Ch 6:34) and the father of Jeroham, who was the father of Elkanah, Samuel's father. The variations in the names (Elihu, Eliel, and Eliab) may be due to scribal differences or alternative names for the same individual. The Bible does not provide any further information about Elihu's life or role as a Levite.
The son of Tohu, and grandfather of Elkanah (1 Sam. 1:1). He is called also Eliel (1 Chr. 6:34) and Eliab (6:27).
