Source calculation and assumptions

The year of Amon_2's birth is the year his reign began (3320) - his age when his reign began (22) = 3298

The year of Amon_2's death (3321) is the year his reign ended = 3321

Dates and sources (12)

Absolute years are conditional chronological estimates. A biblical passage may state an age or event, but does not by itself establish a BCE year. Different calendar systems are preserved separately.

Conditional birth estimate

Conditional birth bounds under generation assumptions; not attested parental ages, biological limits or a lifespan.

The anchors give incompatible conditional intervals. This calculation establishes no birth year.

Below are relatives with a selected birth year, the generations separating them, and the interval allowed by each anchor. Each relative’s page shows available dates and sources. The overall estimate uses the intersection of the allowed intervals.

Amon Summary STEPBible TIPNR

Amon, the son of Manasseh, was the 15th king of Judah who reigned for two years before being assassinated by his servants.

Amon Article STEPBible TIPNR

Amon was the son of Manasseh and the 15th king of Judah. He began his reign at the age of 22 and ruled for two years in Jerusalem. Amon followed the evil practices of his father Manasseh, worshiping idols and doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not humble himself before the Lord as his father had done.

Amon's servants conspired against him and assassinated him in his palace. However, the people of the land killed all those who had conspired against King Amon, and they made his son Josiah king in his place. Amon was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza.

The prophets Jeremiah and Zephaniah began their ministries during the reign of Josiah, Amon's son. Amon is also mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus Christ in the Gospel of Matthew.

Amon 2 Dictionary Easton's Bible Dictionary (1897)

The son of Manasseh, and fourteenth king of Judah. He restored idolatry, and set up the images which his father had cast down. Zephaniah (1:4; 3:4, 11) refers to the moral depravity prevailing in this king’s reign.

He was assassinated (2 Kings 21:18-26: 2 Chr. 33:20-25) by his own servants, who conspired against him.55
