Conditional birth estimate

Conditional birth bounds under generation assumptions; not attested parental ages, biological limits or a lifespan.

The anchors give incompatible conditional intervals. This calculation establishes no birth year.

Below are relatives with a selected birth year, the generations separating them, and the interval allowed by each anchor. Each relative’s page shows available dates and sources. The overall estimate uses the intersection of the allowed intervals.

Hur Summary STEPBible TIPNR

Hur was a prominent figure during the Israelites' journey in the wilderness, serving as a support to Moses and the grandfather of Bezalel, the chief artisan of the tabernacle.

Hur Article STEPBible TIPNR

Hur was a significant figure in the early history of Israel, particularly during the Israelites' journey in the wilderness after their exodus from Egypt. He is mentioned several times in the books of Exodus and Chronicles.

In Exo 17:10-12, Hur is described as one of the two men who accompanied Moses to the top of a hill during the battle against the Amalekites. Along with Aaron, Hur supported Moses' arms, which were holding the staff of God. As long as Moses' hands were raised, Israel prevailed in the battle. Hur's presence and assistance were crucial in securing the victory.

Later, in Exo 24:14, Moses appointed Hur, along with Aaron, to oversee the people while he went up to Mount Sinai to receive the tablets of the law from God. This indicates that Hur was a trusted and respected leader among the Israelites.

Hur is also mentioned in the context of the construction of the tabernacle. In Exo 31:2 and Exo 35:30, God appointed Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, as the chief artisan responsible for crafting the tabernacle and its furnishings. This connection suggests that Hur's family was skilled in craftsmanship and held a prominent position within the tribe of Judah.

Hur 2 Dictionary Easton's Bible Dictionary (1897)

The husband of Miriam, Moses’ sister (Ex. 17:10-12). He was associated with Aaron in charge of the people when Moses was absent on Sinai (Ex. 24:14). He was probably of the tribe of Judah, and grandfather of Bezaleel (Ex. 31:2; 35:30; 1 Chr. 2:19).
